Lord’s Supper Devotion: The Depth of Jesus’ Love
Scripture: Matthew 26:26-28 (ESV)
“Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, ‘Take, eat; this is my body.’ And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.’”
Context and Commentary:
These verses capture the moment when Jesus institutes the Lord’s Supper during the Last Supper, just before His crucifixion. The bread represents His body, which would soon nailed to a cross, and the cup symbolizes His blood, which would be shed for the forgiveness of sins. This act was not just a ritual but a powerful expression of Jesus’ love and the new covenant between God and humanity.
Devotion:
As we take the bread and the cup, remember that Jesus willingly gave His body and blood for our sins. This is the ultimate expression of love—a love that was willing to endure suffering and death for our sake. As we partake, let’s reflect on how deep His love is and how it calls us to love Him and others in return.
