Week 44: Paul Before the Sanhedrin
Verses Covered: Acts 22:30–23:11
Paul’s Trial Before the Sanhedrin
- The Roman commander brought Paul before the Sanhedrin (Jewish council) to determine the accusations against him. Paul boldly declared that he had lived in good conscience before God.
- A dispute arose when Paul mentioned the resurrection, dividing the Pharisees and Sadducees. The Pharisees supported Paul, while the Sadducees opposed him.
The Lord’s Encouragement
- During the night, the Lord appeared to Paul and encouraged him, telling him that he must testify about Jesus in Rome, confirming that Paul’s mission was not over.
Life Applications:
- In challenging situations, we can rely on the Lord’s strength and encouragement to continue our mission.
- Be wise in how you approach opposition, as Paul used the division between the Pharisees and Sadducees to shift the focus away from himself.
- Even when circumstances seem bleak, trust that God’s plan for your life is not finished.
Discussion Questions:
- How did Paul handle the trial before the Sanhedrin? What can we learn from his response?
- Why was it significant that the Lord encouraged Paul to continue his mission?
- How can we trust God when our future seems uncertain?
