Week 32: Paul and Silas in Philippi

The Conversion of Lydia
- Paul and his companions met a woman named Lydia, a worshiper of God, by the riverside in Philippi. After hearing Paul’s message, Lydia and her household were baptized.
- Lydia’s home became a gathering place for believers, showing her hospitality and commitment to the Gospel.
Paul and Silas Imprisoned
- Paul cast a demon out of a slave girl who was used for fortune-telling. Her owners were upset about the loss of income and had Paul and Silas thrown into prison.
- Despite their suffering, Paul and Silas prayed and sang hymns while imprisoned, demonstrating faith in the midst of hardship.
The Philippian Jailer’s Conversion
- After an earthquake opened the prison doors, the jailer was about to harm himself, fearing the prisoners had escaped. Paul reassured him, and the jailer asked, “What must I do to be saved?”
- Paul and Silas preached the Gospel to the jailer, and he and his family were baptized that same night.
Life Applications:
- Be willing to open your home and life to support the work of the Gospel, like Lydia.
- Keep your faith strong in difficult times, just as Paul and Silas did in prison.
- God can bring salvation to unexpected people in unexpected ways, like the jailer and his family.
