Lord’s Supper Devotion: A Time of Reconciliation
Scripture: Matthew 5:23-24 (ESV)
“So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.”
Context and Commentary:
Jesus teaches that reconciliation with others is so important that it should take priority over religious rituals. Before we come to worship God, we should make sure our relationships with others are right. The Lord’s Supper is a time to examine our hearts and make peace with those we may have wronged.
Devotion:
The Lord’s Supper is a time for reconciliation. If we know that someone has something against us, Jesus calls us to seek reconciliation before we come to the table. As we prepare to take the bread and the cup, let’s examine our relationships. Is there someone we need to forgive or ask forgiveness from? Let’s make peace with others, knowing that this pleases God and brings us closer to Him.
